Around the World
Koh San Road and Wat Po
Koh San Road is the main traveller's ghetto. Almost every building has been converted to some type of accommodation. You are not going to find luxury here. But what you will get is cheap room. We found one place that was less scary than the others, tossed the complete set of baggage in and collapsed.

We awoke the next day. It was now Thursday. We had left Dublin on Tuesday, but 12 hours had gone missing somewhere along the way. I had expected the jet lag to take a bigger toll, but we seemed to get off pretty lightly. After breakfast, we had a wander around.

It really is a different World. People are cooking all sorts of things on the streets, the budhist priests walk around in their bright yellow robes, and tuk-tuks are everywhere. A tuk-tuk is a traditional torture device that the Thai's use to scare the bejasus out of tourists. They consist of a scooter with an extension out the back for the passengers. The nearest thing I have seen to a tuk-tuk ride was portrayed by George Lucas in Episode I - The Phantom Menace. You can be sure that George has been to Bangkok.

We wandered into the City Centre to visit Wat Po. A Wat is a temple, and Wat Po is the main temple in the City. It was really impressive. They are very decorative. The statue of Budda pictured here is quite large. You can't really get an idea for it in the photo, but that white rectangle at the very end of the room is a big door. Hope that gives you some idea of the scale..
