Around the World
Bangkok - Oriental City
Our train pulled into Bangkok city and we were immediately swamped by hustlers. I think our whiter than white skin gave us away as being new to the Country. It had been over 24 hours since we had last seen a bed, and we were both exhausted - as well as a little irritable. On top of all this, torrential rain had started outside, and we had nowhere to stay.

Our carefully pruned luggage were beginning to feel like Immelda Marcus's extended shoe collection. There just weren't enough arms to carry everything. I was beginning to wonder how we were going to trek through rain forests with all this. At the same time, I marvelled at the other travellers that seemed to be getting by with what I considered day bags! They must have Sherpas following with the rest of their gear. I made a mental note to hire some at the first available opportunity. Marie is great, but her back just isn't strong enough.

We eventually jumped into a cab. I pointed at "Koh San Road" on the map, and in my best Thai accent, pronounced it. The driver looked a little puzzled, but drove off. I prided myself in my International travelling abilities. We spent the next ten minutes driving around in circles. We realized our driver was attempting to find some-one who could understand what I said. Eventually, we found someone, I told him we needed "Koh San Road", he said "Koh San Road" to the driver, and off we went. I bet those translators get paid real well!
