Touchdown in Australia
After another long flight, we finally touched down in Sydney. It was a big change from the streets of Bangkok. We settled in the Kings Cross district for the first 2 weeks. After a bit of looking around we were able to arrange work and more permanent accommodation.

I worked for a web development company Unique Web Developments, working on the Ozbooks web site, which went on to win "Internet Australia" magazine's site of the month for July - so that was fun. We got away every now and again for weekends. The most exciting had to be Easter Weekend. We rented a Mazda MX5 convertible sports car. It was beautiful. Taking corners was just the most fun. We headed around the area, ending up in the Blue Mountains.

When the weather got too bad, we headed back to Sydney. As long as we could drive around, we were happy. Any break in the clouds involved taking the car top down. The best fun was when we were stopped at a set of traffic lights, we looked to one side, and there were our friends in a cab, jaws dropped to the floor! We just waved, and sped off. We had a lot of explaining to do the next time we met them!

It broke my heart to have to give that car back, but all good things have to come to an end, I guess. If anyone is wondering what to get me for Christmas, or Birthday, you can't go far wrong with getting me one of these babies.

One of the best nights out in Sydney was aboard the replica of the Bounty ship. I believe it is the ship they used to film "Mutiny on the Bounty". All the crew are in costume, and you are required to "man the ropes" to raise the sails. The food was great, and the crew entertaining. We also got out to the Manly Quarantine station. This was where people were quarantined against diseases. It opened in 1832, and was only closed in 1984. We opted for the night ghost tour, which was pretty spooky, considering 600 people have died out there.

Wonderland is a theme park outside Sydney. We went out there one Sunday to enjoy the thrills and spills. They have about 3 roller coasters - including "The Largest In The Southern Hemisphere", and I think we tried all of them out. The Deamon was the most stomach churning of the day. But the highlight had to be "The Space Probe"! You are raised 225 feet vertically into the air, and then dropped to Earth at speeds exceeding 120 KM per hour! The whole thing is over in 2 minutes, but it is the closest I have ever come to having a heart attack.

As of the time of writing, we are just about to leave Syndney. We fly to Melbourne on July 19th, and after that we go to Brisbane. Apart from that, we have no plans, but if I get a chance, I'll update these pages for anyone who is interested.
