Around the World
Lazing around Krabi
We had to leave Phi Phi the next day. It was the Chinese New Year and all the accommodation had been booked out. We decided to head for Krabi - a coastal town back on the mainland. The only problem was that our backs had gotten nicely baked the previous day during the snorkelling, while we were watching the fishies, and we had developed a nice bright red sun burn. This didn't sit well with the heavy back packs. But there was nothing to do but grin and bear it.

We were lucky again in Krabi to find some great accommodation, just outside the town. We switched the fan on full blast and tried to cool down our backs, occasionally working up the courage to add another layer of after-sun milk. Later on, we headed back to town to book ourselves into some activities for the next day. I opted for the rock climbing, and Marie chose the tour of the region.

The rock climbing was in Rai Leh, an area that could only be accessed by boat. Again, it was all blue waters, and white sand. I had signed up for a full day of climbing. It was my first time ever doing this, and it turned out to be great fun, but it just killed my arms. The fun part was when the instructor was telling you to just put your leg in the giant ledge and pull yourself up. Invariably, the "giant ledge" was a tiny dent just above your left ear. I don't know who they thought I was! Saying all that, it's something I would definitely try again.

Marie enjoyed her tour, which included the original "Bond Island", as seen in the film "The Man with the Golden Gun". The next day was to be our last before heading back for our flight to Australia. We decided to spend the day at Rai Leh, lazing around and taking in the scenery, before grabbing the bus for our final trek back to Bangkok.
