Day 1: Arrive in Thailand
Well, day one actually began yesterday, when we got on the plane from Dublin to London. It was an exciting morning, which involved a lost wallet, and the mandatory last minute dashes to the check-in counter.

At London, we boarded our Quantas flight to Thailand. They had one of those screens showing you how long you would have to live in that seat before touching down, which made the whole journey just drag out. It was a relief to finally arrive, exhausted, in Bangkok. Our first urge was to get out into the fresh air. But the minute we stepped outside, the heat just hit us, and every bit of sweat in my body came to the surface. I had never felt such humidity in my life. They warn you about it, but it's not the same as experiencing it in person. Within minutes, my clothes were saturated - and it was only 6:30am. I'm sure it didn't help that I was wearing jumper, jeans, 2 back packs and a sleeping bag!

We grabbed the next train into the city. It cost a whopping 20p, or something ridiculous like that. You could feel the difference in culture straight away. In all my years travelling Irish Rail, I never shared a carriage with farm yard animals (well, not in the true sense of the word), but here we had men sitting with hens, and other cages containing god knows what.
